Be Ye Separate

One man stands out. One detractor, one separate, truly, a man apart. In a quick survey, easy to miss, but once identified, impossible to ignore. Once he is noticed, all others lose their appeal.  Quickly, questions arise; what is he thinking? Doesn’t he care of consequences of non-conformity to the masses? Is he sane? Is he driven by conviction? What are the convictions of a man risking his life and possibly the life of his family to stand, separate from the masses of nazi Germany, to make a statement; “I am separate”.

In our age, there seems to be no more non-conformists. There seems to be no one that stands apart. There are no more rebels. But is that true? Possibly, if we scan the crowd closer, we could find one.

We may never know much more about this man than this picture plainly reveals.

But there is a man, that stands out, stronger than the one in this picture, and He is impossible to ignore. There is one One man that stands in History, as the divider of all things. One man even divides the way we count years. One man defined love for all time. One man defined Righteous Judgment for all time and eternity.

Jesus, God’s Son, left His Place in Heaven, and during His time here in earthly ministry, longed to be back in Heaven, physically, with the Father.

He, as God in the flesh, lived out a perfect life, resisted every trial and temptation, showing all humanity, the One life, acceptable to God. He was separate from the world, yet in the world. He showed us how One can walk in Perfect Love, Perfect Obedience, Perfect Humility, in a fallen, evil world, and yet bring God’s bright, perfect, Holy Light to such a dark and hurting place.

He constantly invited men to follow Him, to imitate Him. His command to His followers is that they will only have Joy in this walk, as they obey Him. This Gospel, this Faith, only works as we follow, even obey, the Lord. And by obey, we obey all the Lord says, throughout all ages, because as God in the flesh, Jesus is God, even One with the Father.

So now, the command given in our generation, is II Corinthians 6:16-18,

And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”

Is anyone left that is fully convinced? Is anyone left that is full of obedience and love for the Lord Jesus? Is anyone willing to stand separate?

The modern church, by longing, even yearning to be like the world to attract the world, has lost it’s saltiness, it’s ‘difference’. When our worship services, gatherings, and assemblies have all flavor of the popular culture, we are not proclaiming in conduct, that we are to be separate. When our lives confess to the watching world that we are the same as unbelievers in life and conduct, we have lost our ability to stand out in the crowd.

When we touch the “unclean thing”, haven’t we already disobeyed the Lord, and lost whatever we thought we had?

I am certain to some this will seem judgmental and harsh, but to another, it is a call to separation from worldliness, and invitation to be different, to be like Christ.  This is a call to be Holy like God is Holy. This is an invitation to walk and follow after Jesus, what an invitation!

This is an invitation to “be ye separate”, God’s own People, an Holy Nation!

Let’s stand up and be counted. Let’s stand out for Godliness. Let’s not just do, act, talk, and walk like the secular, unbelieving world around us. Let’s be the “salt” of the earth, not the sugar. Stand now, be counted for Righteousness. Stand, be counted as the Lord’s Own People. Today is the day, now is the hour, God is calling men and women to be separate, to stand out, and be God’s own People.

My Name is Joshua Mangels, I am answering God’s call, to call God’s People to Holiness in a generation that has not been given the invitation to walk Holy. Please follow me on Twitter for daily updates and encouragements.
