Putting Fear Behind Us

Three months ago we were finishing our Christmas shopping. Many were dealing with seasonal emotional swings, others were dreading the memories of the past, some were unsure if they’d have enough money for presents, still some were battling illness.

We have all but forgotten the holiday season; those worries and fears are a distant memory. But today uncertainly abounds.

How can we get free of the grip of today’s fear? We actively and intentionally trust in God. We cannot know for certain what or how things will work out, but we can be certain God is in control.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace and Christians are promised peace that the world cannot take away, really peace that is beyond our understanding. This isn’t a passivity too events and circumstances. On the contrary, Christians have an active faith and trust in God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

We have this peace in great part because we believe that God has raised Jesus from the dead and that death has lost its sting as a result.

In other words, the worst thing that can happen; death, has lost its sting as a result of Jesus rising from the dead, Him being the first fruits of the resurrection. If He resurrected (showing our justification) we know that we too shall be resurrected.

Our faith and belief in Jesus assures that God is in control today. He is not shocked by the news of the day, He is not caught off guard. He knows where each one of His children are.

Let us intentionally throw off fear today and pick up trust. I’m not talking about just a mental trick, as for some it may require time in prayer, possibly on knees, possibly with tear, asking a God to deliver from fear and doubt, and give faith and strengthen our trust in Him.

His strength is made perfect in my weakness. So let us work to put this fear in the past, with all other things God has brought us through. Let Christians be the light in the darkness when many are consumed with fear. And like the Psalmist we may say, “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.”(Psalm 34:4)
